Who we are
Alvar Group Pty Ltd (“Alvar Group”, “we”, “us”) is an Australian company based in Sydney, NSW. This policy covers alvar.com.au and any enquiry you send us. Our businesses, such as TechRam, and the companies we invest in have their own websites and privacy policies.
What we collect
We only collect personal information that we need, and we collect it fairly and lawfully.
- When you email us: your name, email address and anything you choose to include in your message.
- When you visit this website: information about your visit, collected by Google Analytics through cookies. This includes the pages you view, how long you stay, the site that referred you, your device and browser type, and your approximate location (city or region). It does not identify you by name.
- When our host serves the website: standard technical logs, such as your IP address, browser and the time of your request. Our hosting provider keeps these to run the website securely.
We do not ask for sensitive information, such as health information or details of your racial or ethnic origin, religion or political opinions. Please do not send it to us.
You can contact us without giving your full name, but we need an email address to reply.
Why we collect it
We use personal information to:
- reply to your enquiry and keep a record of our correspondence
- understand how people use this website, so we can improve it
- keep the website secure and running
- meet our legal obligations.
We do not sell personal information, and we do not use it for any other purpose without your consent, unless the law allows or requires it.
We will not add you to a mailing list or send you marketing unless you ask us to. If you do receive marketing from us, you can opt out at any time by replying to the email or using its unsubscribe link.
Cookies and analytics
This website uses Google Analytics to measure visits. Google Analytics sets cookies in your browser. We use the reports it produces to see which pages are useful; we do not use them to identify you.
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, or install the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on. The website works the same with cookies turned off. Google explains how it handles this data in its privacy policy.
Who we share it with
We share personal information only with service providers who help us run our business, and only so they can provide that service:
- Microsoft, which provides our email
- Google, which provides website analytics
- Vercel, which hosts this website.
We may also disclose personal information if the law requires it, for example to a court or regulator.
Overseas disclosure
Some of these providers store or process information outside Australia, including in the United States. When that happens, we take reasonable steps to make sure the information is handled in a way that is consistent with the Australian Privacy Principles.
How we keep it secure
We take reasonable steps to protect personal information from misuse, interference, loss, and unauthorised access, change or disclosure. This website is served only over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection. We keep personal information only for as long as we need it, then delete it or de-identify it.
No method of sending information over the internet is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee the security of information you send us.
If a data breach is likely to cause you serious harm, we will tell you, and notify the OAIC where the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme requires it.
Accessing or correcting your information
You can ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, or ask us to correct it. Email us and we will respond within 30 days. If we cannot give you access or make a correction, we will explain why in writing.
Making a complaint
If you think we have mishandled your personal information, please email us first and tell us what happened. We will acknowledge your complaint and aim to resolve it within 30 days.
If you are not satisfied with our response, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at oaic.gov.au.
